The Jim Gilmore Jr. Foundation
Granting Guidelines
In furtherance of its mission, the Foundation has established the following granting guidelines:
1. The Foundation will only support public entities and organizations that are exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
2. The Foundation will consider financial support for public and charitable causes primarily within the community of Kalamazoo, Michigan, with particular emphasis on the improvement of downtown Kalamazoo.
3. The Foundation's Directors will make all decisions in connection with inviting grant proposals and in response to invited grant proposals without discrimination on the basis of race, color, creed, gender, marital status, religion, age, sexual orientation, handicap or disability, or national origin of the applicant's staff or volunteers. It is expected that all recipients of funding from the Foundation will adhere to existing State and Federally mandated affirmative action and non-discrimination policies.
4. Applications may be for capital needs or special project funding.
Our Mission
The Jim Gilmore, Jr. Foundation was created by James S. Gilmore, Jr., an enthusiastic booster of downtown Kalamazoo. Jim believed in investing in downtown Kalamazoo, whether or not he could anticipate good returns. He created the Foundation to continue that tradition, albeit through a charitable vehicle.
While the Foundation intends to pursue Jim's charitable agenda with a major portion of its assets, it will solicit and invite grant applications that are not inconsistent with its primary mission. Unsolicited grant applications generally will not be reviewed or acknowledged due to limited staff availability and the sheer volume of such applications received by private foundations.
